TROUM – Objectlessness
January 2, 2008
The sleeve for the TROUM – Objectlessness CD on Feria Records has now gone to print amidst the usual last minute alterations & reconfigurations. It was a great project to be given to work on since I am a huge fan of the group, consequently I sweated over this one to create something a bit different. Here are 2 of the postcards that accompany the package (there are 4 in total):
“There is a big gap between rational verbal language and the pre-symbolic language of our emotional and unconscious mind. Music is perceived partly with our conscious mind where it can be analysed and later reflected upon. It can also be perceived by our unconsciousness, by our primal consciousness that lies under the rational mind.
The idea: Experimental music, especially that of a more droning character can more easily get in touch with or be unconsciously connected with this primal state of mind. It is music that is linked with unconscious fantasies coming from a pre-verbal sphere of existence… the phase of life based on the dyadic interaction with the primal object, the mother. At this early stage, there is no existing awareness of being a full separated Subject, and no other fully separated objects can be perceived. Inner and outer reality are the same. Spheric, droning, dissolving music is pointing unconsciously at this objectless sphere of existence. This release is dedicated to the idea of an especially formed pre-symbolic music.”
